The Guildhall on the River Ouse

The Guildhall (guild hall) of the city of York is derived from the 15th century meetinghouse of the guilds. Due to the severe damage caused by a German air raid during the so-called Baedeker Blitz , the current building is largely a reconstruction that opened in 1960. The so-called Inner Room survived the attack intact, with paneling and a history of the city of York on a glass window. The Guildhall has been the scene of many events in British history.
