The Guldborgsundtunnelen ( German : Guldborgsund-Tunnel ) is a four-lane road - immersed tunnel under the Guldborgsund , which connects the Danish islands of Falster and Lolland . The tunnel represents an important connection of the Sydmotorvejen (German: Südautobahn ), which forms the Danish part of the E 47 ( bird flight line ). Since its opening on June 7, 1988, he has a marked relief of a few kilometers north in Guldborg located guldborgsund bridge out.
Originally, the tunnel and the roads leading to it were designed as two lane motorways , which could, however, be expanded relatively easily into a four-lane motorway . The increase in traffic over time meant that the expansion became necessary in order to maintain the quality of service and to prevent Guldborgsund from becoming a bottleneck again - as in the time before the tunnel . The extension from the motor road to the motorway was inaugurated on November 2, 2007.
In the tunnel there is a speed limit of 90 km / h due to the lack of hard shoulder . In general, the maximum speed on Sydmotorvejen south of Farøbroerne is 110 km / h.
