Gummarus was a hermit and saint who lived in the 8th century. Few records are known about him. The city of Lier in Belgium is said to have been founded by Gummarus in 760.

Life

Gummarus lived on the small island of Nivesdunk , a hill at the confluence of the two Nets . Gummarus is said to have cleared a forest here with his companions and built a place of prayer and dwelling. This is also where he is said to have been buried. In 754 he was canonized . His relics were transferred to a new church, which was called the Gummaruskirche from 1199. This collegiate St. Gummarus in Lier is it ordained . The patronage is celebrated on October 11th.
