Cross-sections of rubber profiles for framing window panes in tram construction

Edges made of rubber or plastic are referred to as rubber profiles (also rubber profiles ) , with which a connection of different components is ensured in a flexible but windproof and watertight manner.

Such profiles are often used in order to be able to install glass panes in vehicles (cars, buses, trains, boats) as borders or to fix window panes in window frames. By selecting the appropriate material, it must be ensured that technical aspects such as B. tensile strength , elasticity and abrasion resistance are observed. Permanent resistance to damage from aggressive liquids (petrol, oil, solvents, etc.) and the effects of the weather is also required. A wide variety of types and shapes of rubber profiles are also used in hollow chambers, on rubbing strips and as edge protection in industry, in crafts and by do-it-yourselfers. Rubber profiles are usually produced by the meter using the extrusion process . Here, liquid plastic compound - similar to a meat grinder - is pressed through a nozzle with the desired cross-section / profile. This intermediate product is then vulcanized into a rubber-elastic state in order to process it.
