Gustav Deharde

Gustav Deharde (born January 13, 1893 , † 1968 ) was a German theater director and director.

Live and act

From 1935 to 1937 Deharde was theater director in Schwerin and from 1937 to 1945 general director at the State Theater in Stuttgart . After the war he moved to Wilhelmshaven. From there he urged the Stuttgart Chamber to press ahead with his denazification process so that his inaction, which he had been forced to do for two years, might come to an end. Deharde justified his joining the NSDAP with the pressure that had been exerted on him after he had started as director in Bremerhaven in 1933. He joined the SA in 1937 in order to have formal support in the struggle with the Nazi party offices and the state government over the Stuttgart State Theater, which he took over as director in 1935. Several witnesses confirmed that the general manager was in constant danger of being removed from office. Witnesses also confirmed that he only wore the SA uniform on very few occasions when it was unavoidable. There was no Hitler salute in the orchestra pit under Dehardes aegis at the Stuttgart State Theater. Finally, the proceedings were discontinued in early 1949 and Deharde was exonerated. He was then still artistic director in Ulm and in Gelsenkirchen, where he hired the young, unknown Marilyn Horne as an inter- professional singer.
