Gutenberg health study

The Gutenberg Health Study is a large-scale, prospective and representative population study of the 2nd Medical Clinic and Polyclinic of the Mainz University Hospital .

As part of the project, the state of health of the population in the Rhine - Main region is examined. One focus is on the study of cardiovascular health. Cancer diseases, eye diseases and diseases of the immune system , metabolism and the psyche are also examined.
From 2007 to 2012, over 15,000 people from a representative sample of the population were included in the study and examined in the study center. In the following years, the health development as well as the course of the diseases of the participants is recorded.

The largest industrial sponsor of the study is the Böhringer Ingelheim Foundation, which has been criticized for the possible influence of a pharmaceutical company on research.
