Christian Kössler (born December 1, 1975 in Innsbruck ) is a writer and librarian at the University of Innsbruck .

life and work

In 2006 Kössler began to write short prose. The main focus of his works are macabre but also eerie stories that Kössler combines with local color and black humor. Since 2007 he has been on the road with reading evenings, author's lessons and culinary readings and has been a guest in Austria, Germany and other countries. In 2012 he presented a cabaret literary evening with his Tyrolean colleagues Thomas Schafferer and Daniel Suckert under the name SKS, with which he went on tour.

In 2016, Kössler took his readings to Scandinavia and the Baltic States, among others. His text Rupicapra Rupicapra was put on the longlist for the “Frankfurter Orthographie-Preis”, the eponymous short story of the Tyrolean author by Felix Gorbach and Moritz Neumayr was made as a short film with Grenzgänger 2017 and was awarded the audience award at short film festivals in Innsbruck and Wörgl. In 2018 Grenzgänger was nominated for the Shocking Shorts Award at the Munich Film Festival , in 2019 there was a nomination for the short film competition "Grenzenlos" of the Franco-German cultural broadcaster ARTE and for the Dogslaughter Film Festival in the USA. In the same year the film was a semi-finalist at the European Cinematography Award in Amsterdam.

At the University of Tartu / Estonia, several of Kössler's stories were translated into Estonian. On the occasion of a reading tour through Bosnia-Herzegovina , the author made a guest appearance in 2018 at the Austrian libraries in Banja Luka, Mostar and Sarajevo as well as at the University of Mostar and read at the literature festivals “Höhenflug” in Zug and “Prima Vista” in Tartu. Based on a course at the University of Innsbruck, “Alpi noir - Racconti di demoni e spiriti” was published in 2020, an Italian-language translation of several sagas from North, East and South Tyrol and Lombardy that Kössler had already published.

Kössler played for many years as a goalkeeper in the Tyrolean football lower house and has several appearances in the goal of the Austrian football literary national team - among others in Basel, Berlin, Ljubljana, Rome and Vienna.

He is a member of the board of IG Authors Tirol.
