history

Towards the end of the 15th century, the farm , which had been managed by the friars of the nearby Cappenberg Monastery, was handed over to the Schulze Heil family as a long lease. This also includes a small chapel used for the religious services of the friars. The family used the Schulzenhof for several generations for around 500 years. She was also given the right to use the chapel for her own weddings, baptisms and burials. From 1585 there was a Catholic enclave in the otherwise Reformed parish. From 1802 the chapel fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1878, the reasons being the move of the court and the abolition of the Cappenberg monastery. The cooling tower of the Heil power plant is located at the former position of the chapel . After the Second World War, a new chapel was built at the site where an old tombstone slab from 1730 was found; it still has the rosette from the former chapel as the keystone. In 2003 this chapel was renovated.

Todays use

Courtyard building

In 1864 the courtyard was rebuilt at its current location with more contemporary furnishings. 1994-1995 the farm was under the IBA Emscher Park for Ecology station rebuilt. The main house and the milker house are under monument protection. In the following years other buildings were renovated and given other uses. The surroundings have been worked up, the old farm garden has been recultivated, an educational bee trail has been laid out, and the large pond has been secured. Rainwater is collected in cisterns and used to flush toilets. After the old three-chamber sewage treatment plant, the wastewater is fed to a plant-based clarifier with reeds before it is discharged into the Lippe via the Beverbach . All facilities are also used for demonstration purposes. The measures were largely financed from funds from the Ecology Program in the Emscher-Lippe Region (ÖPEL).

The ecology station is an environmental education center, a center for nature conservation work and a forum for voluntary nature conservation. In addition to the environmental protection organizations, natural and species-appropriate production and processing companies are located on the farm. Since 1999, the economically operating meat processing company for animals from environmentally friendly animal husbandry and since 2004 the model stable for animal welfare have been an integral part of environmental education. Own products (e.g. honey, apple juice, potatoes, canned fruit, fruit spreads, books) are sold in a gable store. Various rooms in the courtyard are used for events and can be rented. The northern part of the Emscher Park cycle path leads directly past the farm .

In 2011, the 'guest house ecology station' was added to the building complex, which was designed as a low-energy house and the shell of which was composed of two-storey prefabricated wooden elements.

In 2012, the former 'Ecology Station of the Unna District' as an ecology station managed by the Westphalia Environmental Center reached the maximum occupancy of the premises on the site. Up to one hundred employees worked in the existing buildings and had to move to the seminar rooms of the guest house at times. The creation of further work spaces by new buildings on the outside area was prohibited, as well as additions to the existing buildings as well as extensions by expanding the hayloft.
