Petri György

György Petri (born December 22, 1943 in Budapest ; † June 17, 2000 there ) was a Hungarian writer and is now one of the leading poets in Hungary .

Life

The decisive experience of his youth was the Hungarian uprising and the invasion of Hungary by the Soviet army. He decided to become a poet.

From 1961 to 1966 he studied philosophy and literature at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. In the eighties he worked for various magazines. From 1975 to 1988 a publication ban was imposed on him because of his activities in the democratic opposition. During this time he only published underground and abroad.
