The Gymnasium Auf der Morgenröthe is a gymnasium in the Siegen district of Niederschelden . The school was founded in 1970. The approximately 500 students are taught by around 35 teachers.

history

On September 7, 1970, classes began for 82 pupils in the two fifth grades of the newly founded grammar school "Auf der Morgenröthe" in a pavilion on the school grounds of the Hubenfeld School. In 1971, a total of 163 students moved to the Gilberg School. In 1972 there were 110 new students and in 1973 150 more students.

By moving into the first construction phase of the new building at the beginning of the 1974/75 school year, the Auf der Morgenröthe grammar school became an independent educational institution. On November 9, 1974, the official inauguration of the new building was celebrated with an open house. In June 1979, the students in the first year of Abitur could be given the certificate of general higher education entrance qualification. In the mid-1980s, the number of students increased to 1,000 for a few years due to the high birth rate, but then decreased to a stable size of around 800 students.

The grammar school cooperates with the University of Siegen . In 2007 a project group worked on concepts of didactics, IT and e-learning to improve IT education in schools.

In the summer of 2015, the Realschule am Hengsberg moved into the high school building, which is now shared.

In-school projects

As part of the 13+ project, the grammar school offers afternoon care for students in grades 5 and 6. The care is taken over by volunteers in grades 10 to 12. Part of the project is, among other things, lunch together. Furthermore, have supervised students through 13+ the opportunity to work on their homework in a quiet atmosphere and to use the remaining time creatively.

Every year, the pupils and teachers organize a presentation day , which is primarily aimed at parents who want to get an idea of the atmosphere and the premises of the school before registering their child. Furthermore, the presentation day is aimed at so-called lateral entrants , i.e. students from a Real-Hauptschule or comprehensive school who strive to complete the upper school level .

Every year there is a reading week in the anteroom of the high school auditorium . It dedicates itself to current topics, shows its focus in the form of posters and pictures and exhibits appropriate literature.

Since September 5, 2009 the grammar school has officially been called School Without Racism - School With Courage . In June 2011, the high school opened its own cafeteria.
