Gysin (family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gysin family with the variants Gysi , Gisi and Gisin originally came from Läufelfingen in the Swiss countryside of Basel, where they can be traced back to the early 15th century. From there, it spread from the 15th century to other municipalities in the Basel ruled area and also in the city of Basel .

From the 16th century, the family established itself outside of the Basel region. Under the name Gysi it spread in Aargau and Unterseen in Bern , and under the name Gisi they were established in the cantons of Solothurn and Zurich. The founder of the Berlin line is the silk dyer Samuel Gysin from Läufelfingen, who settled in Berlin with his family in 1731/32. The two politicians Klaus Gysi and Gregor Gysi are among his descendants .
