Hägglmoo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hägglmoo is an aquarius who, like the night giger, is a child horror figure exclusively from Franconia . The word can only be roughly translated. The second syllable moo (spoken with an open o) means man , the initial syllable is derived from häggeln nach and means something like "to catch someone or something with a hook".

Naturally, it can only be found under the surface of rivers, small lakes and ponds and is therefore only known in such places in Franconia. The sole purpose in life of the Hägglmoo is, usually in the evening, to pull small children playing in such waters down with the help of an iron hook and drown them.

At least that's how the children were told to frighten them and, when it was getting dark, to leave the water and go home. In the course of more modern conceptions of child-rearing, this child-frightening figure is getting more and more on the defensive, even threatening to be forgotten.
