Hæstiréttur is the highest court in Iceland and is based in Reykjavík .

The seat of the court has been at Lindargata 2 in Reykjavík since 1996 . The court was established in 1920 when Denmark gained independence and replaced the Højesteret in Copenhagen .

In addition to the Supreme Court, Iceland has the Landsdómur Special Court .
