Hòn Ngư is a small island in the South China Sea in the Gulf of Tonkin in northern Vietnam . It consists of two islands that are connected by a narrow strip of land and is located about 4 km off the coast of Vietnam near the mouth of the Ca river . The larger island rises 133 m above sea level. d. M., the smaller with 88 m above sea level. d. M.

Phan Huy Chu (1782–1840), wrote in the 49-volume work "Lich Trieu Hien Chuong Loai Chi" (Chronology of the Dynasties) about Hon Ngu: The twin mountains at the mouth of the Hoi Thong river ... look like two fish, so they become she was probably called Song Ngu ... (Song Ngu means "two fish"). The local population calls the island Dao Ngu hay Hon Ngu ("Fish Island").
