The Hôtel du Cerf , also known as the Grand Hôtel du Cerf , was a hotel on Rue de la Montagne (Bergstrasse) in Echternach (Luxembourg) .

history

In the 19th century the hotel belonged to Jean Foehr. Victor Hugo stayed there in 1862, 1863 and 1865 . On October 18, 1896, Jacques Marie Bellwald hosted the first film screening in Luxembourg at the Hôtel du Cerf . The building was renovated before 1912. At that time it was owned by the Straus siblings.

It fell victim to the Battle of the Bulge and was not rebuilt later; instead the rue du Pont was laid out. On June 30, 1985, a memorial plaque was put up in memory of the hotel and its guest Victor Hugo.
