details

The shipping company was founded in 1927 by Leif Høegh. The company started out as a tanker shipping company, a division that made up a major part of the shipping company for decades. Twelve years later, Leif Höegh & Co. was already operating a fleet of 13 ships. The shipping company later entered the liner shipping sector with the Java Pacific Line . From 1948 (until 1990) a West African service was added. In the 1960s, the shipping company expanded its tanker shipping by building tank bulk carriers . The shipping company is one of the pioneers of RoRo shipping and car transport by sea. In March 2000, Höegh acquired Ugland's shares in the joint venture HUAL, one of the largest providers in its segment, and from 2005 continued to run the shipping company as Höegh Autoliners . In 1973 Höegh received the world's first LNG tanker with Moss tanks.
