The Höppner House ( Estonian Hopneri Maja ) is a listed building in the Estonian capital Tallinn ( German  Reval ).

It is located in the historic old town of Reval on the north side of Markthalsgasse (Estonian Vanaturu kael ) in a corner to the west of Rathausplatz ( Raekoja plats ) at Markthalsgasse 3, Rathausplatz 18.Northern is the also listed building Rathausplatz 17 .

Architecture and history

The town hall and merchant's house goes back to the 14th / 15th centuries. Century back. A house at this point is mentioned for 1367. A large commercial building was probably built in 1420. Originally there were several houses on the property, which were then combined into one building in 1665. It belonged to the businessman Johan Höppner, also known as Johan Hopner, to whom today's name goes back. Today's appearance is largely due to renovations in 1681.

The entrance of the house on the market Halsgasse out with a Beischlag provided. It is the only original preserved addition in Reval. The two large windows on the ground floor are also remarkable. An extensive restoration took place from 1981 to 1984.

Inside the house there is the floor plan typical of the merchant houses of the time, a hall-Dornse house with a large hall and a heated Dornse . A storage floor is located above the hall.

The corner house on Rathausplatz also belongs to the Höppner House. It is decorated with colored reliefs created by the sculptor Arent Passer . They show the evangelists Mark, Matthew, Luke and John, the apostles Paul and Peter and below them Jesus. However, the original reliefs from the 16th century are now in the building, and replicas have been attached to the facade.

The building was registered as a monument on April 15, 1997 and is entered in the Estonian Monument Register under number 3070 .
