The radio play summer is an open-air radio play festival in Leipzig . It has been held annually in July since 2003, initially in Albertpark and later in Richard-Wagner-Hain . Entry is free. The festival is organized by the Leipziger Verein Hörspielsommer e. V. and financed primarily through donations, sponsoring and subsidies. The initiator of the festival is Sophia Littkopf (* 1979). The program is divided into a children's program, radio play competitions, themed evenings and live events. The radio play summer e. V. has meanwhile established three radio play competitions as part of its festival: the international radio play competition , which is aimed at young artists and independent radio play makers, the children's and youth radio play competition and a short manuscript radio play competition that aims to promote radio play authors. The competitions take place on the last weekend of the festival. The winners will be recognized by a jury. The radio play summer e. V. has published several publications.

In 2004 and 2005 a comparable festival took place in Dresden under the title “Hörgarten”. In Dessau called the "Wallwitzburg Dessau e. V. ”his festival in 2006 and 2007, like the Leipzig“ Radio Play Summer ”. Since the term is protected, the Dessau Festival was renamed "Radio Play Nights".
