Hükümet Konağı

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hükümet Konağı is the traditional Turkish name for the seat of a Turkish provincial governor. One can be found in all Turkish provincial capitals, including the provincial centers of former Ottoman governors outside of today's Turkey. Hükümet is the Turkish word for government, here for the provincial government (compare the German terms regional president and government ), Konak , in addition to its basic meaning as a place of settlement , also refers to a representative manorial residential building, from which the officials originally carried out their official business.

Konak is derived from this, in various compositions, the Turkish word for government building or administration building in general. This ( Devlet Konağı ) denotes the capitol of the US states, a Belediye Konağı corresponds to a town hall .
