Hülya Şenyurt

Hülya Şenyurt (born November 10, 1973 in Altınordu ) is a former Turkish judoka who won an Olympic bronze medal in the super light weight category in 1992, up to 48 kg.

Athletic career

Şenyurt was third in the 1990 European Junior Championships, in 1991 she reached the final and won the silver medal. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , women's judo competitions were on the program for the first time. Hülya Şenyurt lost her first fight after 19 seconds against the later Olympic champion Cécile Nowak from France. In the round of hope she defeated the Argentine Carolina Mariani , the Italian Giovanna Tortora , the Venezuelan María Elena Villapol and the British Karen Briggs and won the bronze medal with a match record of four wins and one loss.

At the European Championships in Athens in 1993 she was defeated in the quarter-finals against the Russian Tatyana Kuwschinowa , but then won three fights in the hope round, in the duel for bronze she defeated the Greek Evangelista Vassiliou . In 1996, Şenyurt took third place at the World Cup tournaments in Moscow, Leonding and Prague and won the Dutch Open. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta, she lost in her first fight against the Algerian Salima Souakri .
