Hồ Ba Bể
Hồ Ba Bể ( Kam-Tai : Ba = three, pé = lake; translated: 3 lakes) is an area of rivers, lakes, caves and waterfalls in the province of Bắc Kạn north of Hanoi , North Vietnam. The lakes are framed by mountains that reach heights of up to 1,600 meters. The lake system itself is the only natural lake landscape in Vietnam and straddles 3 valley systems (hence the name).
The lake extends over a length of 9 km and is up to 35 m deep. In 1992 the region was declared a national park. The Tay , Hmong and Red Dao live in the region .
The national park can largely be explored by boat or trekking. The Puông cave (full of bats), the Thác Đầu Đẳng (waterfall) or the legendary so-called widow's island are special sights .
