Hardtalk ( spelling : HARDtalk ) is a British television and radio broadcast by the BBC, each episode consisting of a one-on-one interview lasting about 25 minutes. It has been aired four days a week (Monday through Thursday) on the BBC World News and BBC News Channel . The broadcast began in 1997.

The show's worldwide popularity is based on its broadcast on BBC World. Tim Sebastian was the presenter until the beginning of 2005 , whose famous and sometimes controversial, tenacious way of inquiring about the show earned a large worldwide audience. It is usually broadcast late at night on the BBC News Channel. Up until the mid-2000s it was broadcast at around 11:30 p.m., in the following years it was broadcast around 0:30 a.m.

In 2015 it was brought forward to 8:30 p.m. as part of various program changes by the station. The program has been presented since 2004 by Stephen Sackur, who was previously a BBC correspondent in Washington and Brussels and is an experienced interviewer. He has been occasionally replaced by other well-known BBC presenters, including Zeinab Badawi, Carrie Gracie and Sarah Montague. Other occasional presenters were Jon Sopel, David Jessel, Lyse Doucet, Nisha Pillai, Noel Thompson, Mishal Husain and Katya Adler. The most famous guests on the show include the Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf , the South African President Thabo Mbeki , the musician Boy George and the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso .
