HLSW is a server search engine ( server browser ) and administration software. It supports a large number of online games and offers a large number of possible uses with different functions.

HLSW is also a real-time statistics tool. This means that the information about the game is continuously queried, thus ensuring that the information is up to date. HLSW was originally developed only to query the data of a server once per second. In addition, HLSW also offers many opportunities to work on the program yourself. It is even possible to add entire games to those already supported via configuration files . The software was co-developed by the player community and is therefore closely geared to the needs of the players.

What is special about HLSW is the individual server list system that lets the user compile and manage favorite lists. The user can compile these lists himself by manually entering servers or he can search for servers according to certain criteria from the Internet.

Many users appreciate the extensive administration capabilities of HLSW, which enable comprehensive remote control of game servers.

HLSW is currently used daily by around 150,000 users worldwide. About 25 million downloads have been counted via official sources since 2004. In fact, the software has been around for much longer and it is impossible to even approximately calculate a suitable number of downloads.

Development history

In December 2000, Timo Stripf started developing HLSW. The goal at the time was to develop software that could query the game information on a half-life server not just once - like most of the programs popular at the time - but continuously. This made it possible to better follow Half-Life games. HLSW v0.1 was created. This concept has been maintained to this day.

Naming

The name H ALF L ife S erver W atch comes from the early days of HLSW than just the game Half-Life was supported. More than 60 games are now supported and the original meaning is therefore obsolete. For this reason, the software is only sold under the abbreviation.
