HL (plant protection products)

HL was a plant protection product manufactured and sold in the GDR for use against various soil pests in fruit growing, arable farming and horticulture. It was produced by the VEB Elektrochemisches Kombinat Bitterfeld . Lindane , which has since been banned because of its harmful environmental effects, served as the active ingredient .

HL acted as a poison, breath and food poison. The insecticide could be used as a spray and pouring agent and could be emulsified with water.

HL was mainly used against aphids in fruit growing . Especially fights were apple sucker , apple blossom weevil , apple sawfly , pear sucker , green apple aphid , Pflaumensägewespe and the larvae of codling moth , winter moth , Gespinstmotte , brown-tail , Ringelspinner and gypsy moth . Even garden chafer , beetle and the larvae of Kommaschildlaus should be fought with HL.

In agriculture and horticulture was equal efforts against the caterpillars of Silver Y , cabbage looper and whiting but also against sitona , pollen beetles , Rübenderbrüßler and asparagus beetles proceed. HL was also used against wireworms and ants. HL was considered dangerous for bees. It should therefore not be sprayed into open flowers.
