HMS Asia

Four ships of the Royal Navy carried the name Asia or HMS Asia , named after the continent Asia (English Asia):

  • The first Asia was acquired as a hull in 1694 and scrapped in 1701.
  • The second Asia was a 3rd class ship launched in 1764 and demolished in 1804.
  • The third HMS Asia was a 3rd class ship with 74 guns launched in 1811. Renamed Alfred in 1819 and reduced to 50 cannons in 1828, the ship was demolished in 1865.
  • The fourth HMS Asia was an 84-gun 2nd class ship launched in 1824. Used as a guard ship since 1858 and sold in 1908.
  • The fifth HMS Asia was a gunboat of the British flotilla in the Caspian Sea from 1918 to 1919.
