HMS Dublin

Four ships in service with the British Royal Navy were named HMS Dublin after the Irish city of Dublin :

  • The first HMS Dublin was a 10 gun yacht, launched in 1707 and demolished in 1752.
  • Another 10-gun yacht was to be named HMS Dublin . Even before it was launched in 1753, the new building was renamed HMS Dorset . The ship was sold in 1815.
  • The second HMS Dublin was the class ship of a series of seven 74-gun ships of the line of the 3rd class. It was launched in 1757 and was canceled in 1784.
  • The third HMS Dublin was also a 74-gun 3rd class ship of the line that was launched in 1812. In 1826 the armament was reduced to 50 cannons. From 1835 to 1838 and 1841 to 1845 she was the flagship of the British South America, from 1837 Pacific station. In 1845 she became a harbor ship in Plymouth and in 1885 it was demolished.
  • The fourth HMS Dublin was a Town-class light cruiser launched in 1912 and sold for demolition in 1926.
