HMS Gurkha
Five ships of the Royal Navy were named HMS Gurkha or HMS Ghurka after the Nepalese Gurkha tribe , whose members serve as elite soldiers in the British army .
- The first HMS Ghurka was a torpedo boat launched in 1888, number 101 in 1901, and sold in 1920.
- The second HMS Ghurka was a destroyer of the first Tribal-class destroyer , which was put into service the 1,907th It sank in 1917 when it ran into a German mine outside Dungeness .
- The third HMS Gurkha was a second Tribal class destroyer launched in 1937 and sunk southwest of Bergen in 1940 by a German air raid .
- The fourth HMS Gurkha was an L-class destroyer , originally called HMS Larne and renamed in 1940. It was sunk in 1942.
- The fifth HMS Gurkha was a third tribal class frigate that was decommissioned by the Royal Navy in 1984 and sold to Indonesia , where it was used as Wilhelmus Zakarias Yohannes until 1999.
