HMS Implacable
Three ships of the British Royal Navy were named HMS Implacable after the English word for "relentless".
- The first Implacable , originally the French Duguay-Trouin , was a third class ship of the line with 74 cannons. It was launched in Rochefort in 1795 , took part in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 , and was conquered by the British in November of that year and entered service in the Royal Navy under the name Implacable . The ship was sunk in 1949 because conservation was considered too costly.
- The second Implacable was a battleship of the Formidable-Class , which was launched in 1899 in World War I at the Battle of Gallipoli took part and was sold for scrap in 1921.
- The third Implacable (R86) was an aircraft carrier and gave its name to the Implacable class . It was launched in 1942, took part in World War II and was broken up in 1954.
