HMS Ocean

HMS Ocean is a traditional name common in the Royal Navy, which six ships have carried so far. It goes back to a French ship named Océan that was captured in 1759 . The British studied their design features, the condition of the captured ship did not allow any further use.

  • The third HMS Ocean (1863) , commissioned as a wooden screw ship, was launched in 1863 as an armored frigate of the Prince Consort class . She served as the flagship of the Royal Navy's China Station and was decommissioned in 1872 after six years of active service and was not used again until it was demolished in 1882.

  • The fifth HMS Ocean (R68) was a Colossus- class aircraft carrier completed in 1945 , on which a jet aircraft landed and took off for the first time in 1945, which was used as a helicopter carrier during the Suez Crisis in 1956 and was canceled in 1962.
