HMS Renown
Renown is the name of at least eleven different ships in the history of the Royal Navy , three of which were given different names even before they were commissioned:
- Renown (ship, 1651) was a 20-gun ship, formerly French renown , captured by the Nonsuch in 1651 and sold in 1654.
- Renown (ship, 1747) was an originally French 30-gun sailing frigate or ship 5th rank with the name Renommée , captured by the Dover in 1747 and renamed Renown, broken up in 1771.
- Renown (ship, 1774) was a 4th rank 50 cannon sailing ship built in 1774 that was demolished in 1794.
- HMS Renown (1798) was a 74-gun ship of the line 3rd rank from 1798, originally intended for the name Royal Oak , but renamed in 1796 before the keel was laid; she was in port service from 1814 and was canceled in 1835.
- HMS Renown (1857) was a 91-gun ship of the line 2nd rank from 1857, which was sold to the North German Confederation in 1870 and then served as the artillery training ship SMS Renown .
- HMS Victoria (1887) was a Victoria-class battleship , but was renamed HMS Victoria before it was launched in 1887 and was rammed and sank by HMS Camperdown on June 22, 1893 during a maneuver off Tripoli .
- Empress of India was a Royal Sovereign class battleship , but was renamed HMS Empress of India during construction in 1890 and launched in 1891.
- HMS Renown was a battleship of the Centurion-class , served Sir John Fisher as the flagship in North America until its conversion to a royal yacht 1905. After many years in reserve in April 1914 sold for demolition.
- HMS Revenge (06) was a Revenge-class battleship , but was renamed HMS Revenge in 1913 and launched in 1915.
- HMS Renown (1916) was a battle cruiser and the lead ship of the Renown class , put into service in 1916, in both the First and the Second World War has been served and in 1948 sold for demolition.
- HMS Renown (S26) was a submarine of the Resolution class , put into service in 1968 and 1996, retired.
