The Federal Association of Psychiatric Survivors (BPE) is a German self-help organization of current and former patients and patients of psychiatry . The association also acts as a lobby group for those with experience in psychiatry. a. Opinions on proposed legislation and proceedings by the Federal Constitutional Court. The seat of the association is Bonn . The office is located in Bochum .

history

The association was founded in 1991 by Dorothea Buck , among others . According to his own account, it is due to the work of the BPE that outpatient compulsory treatment is not permitted. On the other hand, his goal of having those experienced in psychiatry recognized as citizens with equal rights has not yet been achieved.

Club work

The association organizes congresses, seminars and self-help days and offers its members free legal advice from a lawyer. Medication advice and a mailing list are also offered for non-members. A membership newspaper is published several times a year.

In many cities there are self-help groups that were set up by the association and are also financially supported by it. In Bochum, for example, there is a café organized by the regional association there.

The patron was the former Federal Minister of Health Andrea Fischer . The BPE separated from Fischer at the beginning of 2009 because it was unable to refute a report by Frontal 21 , according to which she also worked as a pharmaceutical lobbyist for the PR agency Pleon .

Regional associations

In almost all federal states, state associations and state working groups have been set up as associations, which work together with the federal association and are its legally independent structures.

One of the most active regional associations is the one in North Rhine-Westphalia. One focus of work is the topic of forced treatment . The National Association NRW eV has the Bochum declaration of intent drawn up, a mixture of living will and durable power of attorney , which is to protect against forced treatments.

Federal Working Group on Psychiatry Experienced

The Federal Association of Psychiatry Experienced Persons (“Die BPE”), which has almost the same name, was founded on November 24, 2004. The members are spread over the whole of Germany and meet in the chat of the federal working group for their grassroots democratic general meeting. Its patron is the impostor Gert Postel , who was convicted of fraud and who rose to become the chief physician of a psychiatry with postman training. He had succeeded in convicting psychiatry "... of pure charlatanry ," according to a press release. The BPE is the authoritative publisher of PatVerfü, a mixture of living wills and health care proxy, which is intended to protect against coercive treatment. The patroness of the PatVerfü initiative is the artist Nina Hagen .

Federal Working Group on Psychiatry Law

The Federal Working Group on Psychiatry Law is an independent working group of members and non-members of the Federal Association of Psychiatry Experienced People, which was founded in 2013 at the annual meeting of the Federal Association of Psychiatry Experienced People (BPE) as a legal working group in the BPE. Primary goal that u. a. was prosecuted by initiating constitutional complaints, was the amendment to § 1906 BGB that has now taken place. The AG strives u. a. the clarification of § 1901 BGB to the effect that the well-being of the person concerned is to be understood as his or her presumed individual will. In addition, the working group provides information on legal issues in the field of psychiatry and advocates an increase in the minimum wages of those affected who are unable to work.
