HMS Rodney

Six Royal Navy warships were named HMS Rodney , at least five of them after Admiral George Brydges Rodney .

  • The first Rodney was a 1759 cutter .
  • The second Rodney was a brig with 16 guns, entered service in 1781 and captured by the French on January 23, 1782 at Demerara.
  • The third Rodney was a third class ship of the line with 74 guns, launched in 1809, converted into a Razee in 1827 and named Greenwich , sold in 1836.
  • The fourth Rodney was a second class ship of the line with 92 guns, launched in 1833, converted to screw drive in 1860, scrapped in 1884.
  • The fifth Rodney was a battleship, launched in 1884, sold in 1909.
  • Rodney was the planned name of an Admiral-class battle cruiser , ordered in 1916, construction was interrupted in 1917 and completely discontinued in 1918
  • The sixth Rodney was a battleship built in 1925, served in World War II and was scrapped in 1948.
