hMailServer is a mail server for Windows.

hMailServer tries to summarize all essential functions of a mail server in an easy to install and configure program. The program was programmed completely in C ++ and is in constant active development. Up to version 4 the hMailServer is licensed under the GPL and from version 5.4 it is again open source .

hMailServer uses a database to store all configurations, either MySQL , MSSQL or PostgreSQL can be used. In the event that you have not installed your own database on the mail server, hMailServer offers the option of performing a minimal installation of MSSQL. The installation takes place via a Windows installer, the configuration via a graphical user interface . As a result, hMailServer is very user-friendly and can be installed and maintained without any special system requirements. Since all configuration parameters are managed in a database, administration via a web interface is also possible.

Functions

  • Management of multiple domains
  • Optional Active Directory connection for e-mail accounts
  • Support of POP3 , IMAP and SMTP
  • certain anti-spam functions, integration of SpamAssassin
  • Integration of virus scanners, especially ClamWin
  • Access control depending on the IP address range
  • Multilingualism
  • simple and clear configurations via a graphical user interface
  • Retrieval from external POP3 mailboxes possible

At the moment, the development is focused on providing an interface for integrating VB scripts, better filter options and different configuration options for administrators and users.

The developer recommends SquirrelMail and Roundcube as webmail systems , for which there is also a specially modified version that is adapted to hMailServer.
