HTLV is the abbreviation for Human T-Lymphotropic Virus . So far, four types of this virus of the genus Deltaretrovirus are known in humans:

• Human T-lymphotropic virus 1
• Human T-lymphotropic virus 2
• Human T-Lymphotropic Virus 3 , discovered in 2005
• Human T-Lymphotropic Virus 4 , 2005 discovered

HTLV-3 and HTLV-4 are also outdated names for HIV types 1 and 2.
