The term hair heterochromia is used to describe the appearance of different hair colors in the same individual. While color differences in humans between different regions, such as between the hair on the head and the hair in the genital region, are not unusual, they are less common in circumscribed areas.

A heterochromia of the hair in circumscribed areas can occur, for example, in a melanocytic nevus , from which a tuft of very dark hair can emerge, as well as in piebaldism , an autosomal - dominant inherited depigmentation of the skin , in which a white forelock often develops or in the context of a somatic mosaicism .

In most cases, the heterochromia of the hair, like strands of different colors, are without any disease value.
