Hair robot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A hair robot (also hair transplant robot or English: Robotic hair restoration ) is a medical robot that supports surgeons in the transplantation of human hair. In Germany, the technology can only be used by licensed doctors for hair transplantation.

history

At the end of the 2000s, the market-ready development and gradual introduction of hair robots began in the USA and Europe. In 2009, NeoGraft was the first FDA  -cleared device for robotic hair restoration surgery. The ARTAS system was approved by the FDA in 2011 for the collection of follicular units from brown-haired and black-haired men.

The technology is now also spreading in Asia.

Evaluation and application

The advantages of the technology are said to be the avoidance of scars through a precise procedure and the computer-accurate removal of the most vital grafts for a high growth rate of the hair follicles . In addition, there should be little to no pain.

Initially, an analysis of the back of the head is carried out by scan in order to identify the most suitable hair and then remove it. The hair is inserted manually by the surgeon.

High costs are viewed as disadvantageous. Currently, the acquisition costs of a hair robot are more than half a million euros plus license fees.
