Hair thickening
The term hair thickening is understood to mean supplementing or filling up one's own, thinning and / or thin hair using various methods. Basically, this is a service that is offered by hair practices (secondary hair specialists) or some specialized hairdressers . Some health insurance companies will cover some or all of the costs for one of the various hair thickening methods. The prerequisite for this is a certificate from a licensed dermatologist (including family doctor or gynecologist) who diagnoses the hair loss and confirms the need for a hair replacement. The amount of the subsidy varies according to the individual cases and the various health insurance companies.

According to a study by the Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy , hair loss and fine and thinning hair are a serious problem for more and more women. Every fourth woman and every second man is directly related to the subject of hair loss.

Working method
With hair thickening, the existing own hair is gently supplemented and filled. Depending on the respective provider and the method, either synthetic or real hair is used, the color, length or structure of which must match the wearer's own hair - not least in order to achieve a natural appearance. In contrast to a wig, with hair thickening there are no longer any restrictions in everyday life ( bathing , swimming , driving a convertible ).
Methods
Depending on the hair problem, there are different methods of performing hair thickening. For those with thin hair who want more volume overall, the same technique is used as for hair extensions . However, in this case the added hair will be adapted to the length of the existing hair, so that the hair length remains the same. On average, around 50-100 strands are worked into the hairline, which is significantly fewer than with a hair extension. For this, a minimum length of the own hair of 8 to 10 cm and a sufficient hair density must be given. The compression of your own hair is immediately visible with this method.
In the case of severe and persistent hair loss , however, hair thickening with extensions is not advisable.
There are other methods for bald spots in the top of the head:
- TopHair: With this method, real hair is attached to a breathable fabric and integrated into the own hair on the top of the head. The incorporation takes place either permanently by means of a bonding ring or with the help of four small clips, with which the hair thickening itself can be removed and reattached. The shelf life of the TopHair is approx. 6–8 months.
- Hair Plus: This system enables you to supplement your own hair directly on the top of the head.
- HighLines: The HighLines is permanently attached to the top of the head using bonding ring technology. The own hair is pulled through larger combs and thus connected with the real hair. Hair thickening with HighLines lasts between six and eight months.
- MicroBellargo: This is a permanent attachment of hair integrations, half wigs or toupees on the top of the head.
- Microlines: With the Microlines method, special threads are worked into your own hair. It is a fine net that is tied with real hair. The remaining hair is pulled through the net and can be washed with it. Sufficient air comes through the net and allergies can be excluded. The Microlines system is permanently attached and can be worn for many months.
- Hair thickening fibers : Hair thickening fibers are fine, short synthetic or real hair fibers that are sprinkled, sprayed or applied as a gel onto the areas to be thickened. The fibers conceal light, thin or fine hair by joining together like branches on your own hair and adhering by electrostatic charge or fixing spray.
- Tape extensions : With so-called tape extensions or tape-ins, 1–4 cm long, self-adhesive film strips with attached real hair are incorporated in order to conceal bald areas or to make thin hair appear fuller with strands. One of the most famous and very gentle methods is the hairtalk Tape Extensions System. The own hair lies between the two adhesive strips and is not damaged either when inserting or removing the hair thickening. After about 8 weeks, the tapes are gently removed from the hair with a hair-friendly solvent and can be used again. Your own hair continues to grow healthy unhindered.
- hot fusion bondings : individual strands of hair -extensions- are welded onto your own hair. This hair thickening method is particularly popular with young women and lasts up to 4 months until it has to be increased again. The bonding method is very popular for hair extensions .
- Clip In Extensions : A quick type of hair thickening with a hair tress with clips already attached. This hair thickening is intended for a single day and is particularly gentle on your own hair.
- weave extensions : hair tresses to be woven in. Your own hair is tied in the so-called small grid braid in the lower layer, then the weft is sewn onto it.
