Habers tower windmill

Haber's mill is the last remaining of the four former windmills in Rhede .

history

The mill was built in 1881 by Heinrich Habers as a tower Dutchman with two grinding aisles and converted to operation with a suction gas motor in 1920 . It was later driven by a locomobile . Milling was stopped in 1925 and Engelbert Habers put a motor-driven mill into operation nearby, which ceased operations in 1954 due to competition from large mills. The old windmill was placed under monument protection as early as 1936.

The Heimatverein has been trying to renovate the building since 1966 and began to re-roof the cap and repair the masonry. The wings and the shaft were torn from their anchorage in 1983 by the effects of a storm, which required renewed renovation.

In 2013 the association "Mühlenpower Krommert" eV was founded with the aim of extensive renovation of the mill. It is intended to be used as a learning and event location.
