Habitus (biology)
Habitus (from Latin habere , “to have” or “to carry around”) describes the external appearance of an organism in biology , i.e. H. the totality of all essential and typical visible characteristics of an animal , a plant or a fungus as well as their relations and body proportions . These characteristics often allow a determination of the family , genus or species of a living being without using a detailed identification key ("determination according to habitus").
As an example, like Marguerite serve their belonging to the family of Asteraceae (Asteraceae) by the typical features of many, in the round inflorescence combined, of ray florets wreathed florets is visible.
However, the habitus can vary within a species or change in an individual during his life cycle, in the case of illnesses or according to the seasons.
