Hackenbracht is a tributary of the Benfe and the name of a submerged settlement in today's municipality of Erndtebrück in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The brook Hackenbracht is a left tributary of the Benfe between the two left tributaries Seebach (south) and Bärenbach (north). The stream is 1.10 km long and flows into the Benfe below the Ludwigseck settlement. Since brook and river names are usually older than settlements in the vicinity, "the" Hackenbracht is likely to have given the name of the submerged settlement of the same name.

The historian Günter Wrede located the desert in 1927: "Probably in the area of Erndtebrück, Schameder and Birkelbach ." In 1977, while working on the Erndtebrück Heimatbuch, the author Werner Wied found out that the Hackenbracht farm was probably a forerunner of the Ludwigseck count's estate .

history

First documented mention in 1467. At that time, Count Georg zu Sayn-Wittgenstein enfeoffed two men from Weidenau with the desert and the village of Hackenbracht. In 1613, the Count's Hof Hackenbracht was a few hundred meters above this desert. The name Hackenbracht lives on in the old Wittgenstein district to a lesser extent as a family name, primarily in the Bad Berleburg area.
