A chipper (more rarely Schuffelmaschine called) is in agriculture for mechanical weed control in row crops used. Usually the spaces between the rows are worked on with the help of goosefoot shares. Disc coulters are used to pile in weeds that grow in the rows.

In beet cultivation , the chopping machine has lost its importance due to the reliable chemical measures.
