The port of Kingston (English Kingston Harbor ) is a seaport in the city of Kingston in Jamaica . It is located in the bays of Cagway Bay and Hunts Bay in the Caribbean Sea .
To the north of the port is the capital Kingston, to the east it borders on Portmore . Norman Manley International Airport is located on an island about 10 km from the harbor basin in the southeast .
The port in the southeastern part of Jamaica is the seventh largest port in the world. The Port Authority of Jamaica , a public corporation , has been operating and managing it since 1972 .
The predecessor Port Royal (approx. 1650 to 7 June 1692) was destroyed in an earthquake and seaquake . Kingston Harbor was last expanded and modernized in 1964. The systems are currently being expanded and renewed.
