history

On May 28, 1903, the city council of Minden decided to build a school building on Hafenstrasse in the Rechtes Weserufer district of the city of Minden for a "7-level system with eight classrooms, conference and rector's room, gym, 1 room for shower baths, domestic kitchen and school caretaker's apartment" . This elementary school, known as "Citizens' School III" in the city of Minden, had 7 classes and was run in one go, one class per year. On May 10, 1905, the first rector, Franz Fischer, received the school key. Both during World War I and World War II, the military was stationed at the school, which according to the chronicle was sometimes seen as an honor. At the end of the Second World War, the school was defended by the “staff of the replacement catering magazine and several machine guns”. The roof stalls of the school were damaged, which is why the school started operating slowly after the Second World War.

In the 1970s, the school was adapted to the new elementary school system in North Rhine-Westphalia and the Hafenstrasse elementary school was abandoned. This means that from now on, grades one to four were taught here instead of one to seven. When the number of pupils continued to decline, the Hafenstrasse primary school was merged with the Meissen primary school in 2006, and they left the Hafenschule location. At the same time, the name changed to "Cornelia Funke School".

The Weserhafen daycare center has been located on the 1st floor since 2012.

In the wake of the refugee crisis in Germany in 2015/2016 , the port school was used as a quarter for refugees until February 2017. The school now operates under the name "Primus Schule Minden" and is a model school in North Rhine-Westphalia for school classes 1 to 10. All degrees are possible here.

Since the middle of 2015, the voluntary group of the refugee aid Rechtes Weserufer - Hafenschule has been supporting the city of Minden in integrating new residents. What began with room sponsorships, language lessons and a bicycle repair workshop is today a come together of all cultures and generations, which has been meeting for several years at fixed times and projects with various network partners in and outside the port school.
