Haidi Giuliani

Haidi Gaggio Giuliani (born May 11, 1944 ) is an Italian politician for the Rifondazione Comunista / Sinistra Europea party .

Life

Giuliani was an elementary school teacher until her retirement. She is married to Giuliano Giuliani.

Her son Carlo Giuliani was shot dead by a Carabiniere in an attack on a Carabinieri off-road vehicle during the protests surrounding the G8 summit in Genoa in 2001 .

Since the death of her son, Haidi Giuliani has appeared several times as a guest speaker at discussion events in Berlin, London, Madrid, Paris and Athens. She is involved in a memorial association for her son and in a network for the victims of state violence.

Giuliani had two children. Her daughter Elena, together with Giuliani and her husband, sued the European Court of Human Rights against the State of Italy because the police officer who shot her son or brother was never charged. The lawsuit was dismissed on August 25, 2009.

On October 12, 2006 Giuliani moved up to the Italian Senate as a non-party leftist for Rifondazione Comunista (PRC) .
