In 2014, it was used from May to July in a disputed part of the South China Sea , near Zhongjian Dao Island , part of the Paracel Islands . These are controversial between China and Vietnam , but are completely under Chinese control. Dangerous maneuvers took place between ships from the two countries, and a Vietnamese fishing boat sank after it collided with a Chinese ship. 13 Vietnamese fishermen were temporarily arrested by the Chinese coast guard. In Vietnam, there were anti-Chinese riots against factories owned by investors from China and other countries.
After the drilling was completed, the drilling platform was withdrawn and the situation calmed down again. The oil company was pleased with the results of the exploration.
