Architecture and history

The two-storey villa was built in 1863 on behalf of the cattle supplier Julius Wernthal . It is one of the oldest buildings on Halberstädter Strasse. The plastered representative building is designed in the style of late classicism . The facade has nine axes, with the central axis being emphasized by a balcony . Below the balcony is the front entrance to the house. The facade is structured by wall templates that are presented in the form of pilaster strips . There is also a horizontal plaster groove. The windows on the upper floor are designed as round arches , with a column between each of the two windows. The villa is covered with a gable roof .

The villa had a plot of land reaching far to the west, with stables, farm buildings, greenhouses and a large number of trees. Hermann Brunner, co-owner of the wine wholesaler Brunner & Sohn , acquired the property in 1879 and converted the house. In 1879 a porch with a terrace was added to the eastern side of the house . After Brunner's death in 1905, his widow Johanna lived in the villa until 1922. In 1922 the engineer and owner of a steam boiler system company bought the house. He initiated the renovation and modernization of the building. So water toilets were installed. The maids' room in the attic and the terrace were converted into winter gardens , the coach houses into garages. In 1933 he had the spacious property behind the house parceled out into 36 plots and sold these areas. This is how today's well settlement came into being. In 1936 an extension was added on the west side of the villa.

Inside the house there are stucco ceilings in the forms of classicism and expressionism .

In the local register of monuments , the villa is listed as a historical building under registration number 094 70025 .
