Neck ring (equestrian sport)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A neck ring consists of stiff, plastic-coated lasso rope and lies loosely around the horse's neck. The neck ring was made famous in recreational riding by Ursula Bruns . The size of the ring is individually adjustable. Regardless of the reins, the rider learns to ride in a light seat with a weight aid.

The principle of this aid works in such a way that the horse receives the appropriate signals through the pressure exerted by the neck ring on the front neck section or on the side neck sections:

  • Put your upper body back and put the ring on your neck by pulling gently = stop
  • Upper body to the right, pressure in the right stirrup, ring on the left of the neck = bend to the right and turn to the right
  • Upper body to the left, pressure in the left stirrup, ring on the right of the neck = bend to the left and turn left
