Light riding is a type of riding introduced by Ursula Bruns and Linda Tellington-Jones , which is mainly used by recreational riders . Light riding is mainly ridden off-road ( trail riding ) and combines elements of different riding styles , such as western riding , Icelandic horse riding and the Iberian riding style .

Special features are:

  • light seat in which the rider balances himself as in endurance riding . The upper body is tilted slightly forward and the center of gravity is above the stirrups.
  • loose reins without support
  • Turns are initiated by weight on the inner stirrup with the center of gravity shifted inwards and the outer rein on the neck (pressure reins)

For training purposes, people often ride with a neck ring instead of a bridle . Line halters and bitless bridles such as Lindel or Bosal are also used.

Budding riders first learn to sit on the wooden horse and give them aids to protect the horses.

Ground work is essential to horse training . The horse is led by a rope, with a voice and a long whip. Skill courses made of bars, barrels, gates and seesaws are mastered in a playful way.
