View over the bay to the place

Hamister is a town in the southwest of the island of Whalsay, part of the Scottish Shetlands . It is north of Symbister , the main town on the island, from which it is separated by the North Voe Bay . The historical core is a few hundred meters away from the bay. Due to Hamister's growth since the beginning of the 20th century, the development now extends to the northeast corner of North Voe and further parallel to the coast of Linga Sound to the north, the borders to Marrister , which is adjacent in this direction, have become fluid. Hamister is overlooked in the northeast by two hills, each about 80 meters high, the Setter Hill and the Sneugans to the east .
