Hammie Nixon

Hammie Nixon (born January 22, 1908 in Brownsville , Tennessee , † August 17, 1984 in Jackson , Tennessee) was an American blues musician, one of the early virtuosos on the harmonica.

In addition to the blues harp , Nixon played kazoo , guitar and the youth (see youth band ). For over 50 years he has performed repeatedly with Sleepy John Estes . They made their first joint recordings in 1929. Nixon also made recordings with Little Buddy Doyle , Lee Green , Charlie Pickett and Son Bonds .

Hammie Nixon established the harmonica, which was previously a solo instrument, as an accompaniment and rhythm instrument for bands. He himself played in numerous youth bands, e.g. B. in his later years with the Beale Street Jug Band . He made his last recording in 1984 shortly before his death.
